Angelina Jolie

Apart from being a world-famous Hollywood actress, Angelina Jolie is a strong women activist for promoting gender equality and helping refugees. Her humanitarian work sparked in 2001, after starting to work for the United Nations referee agency when traveling to camps of displaced people in developing countries.

In 2005, she launched the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children, an organization that helps give free legal aid to children seeking asylum. She also is the co-chair of the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which helps fund education programs for those affected by conflict. In 2012, she launched the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative, an international protocol on how to document and investigation sexual violence due to the lack of justice present in may countries. She also works with ministers of defense and NATO in order to have them focus more on the prevention of sexual violence and change their military practices accordingly.

Angelina Jolie believes that while the world is becoming richer and more technologically advanced, society is becoming more incapable of prioritizing other pressing issues such as gender equality. She focuses on the importance of education, awareness of sexual violence, the consistent increase of displaced families, and the need for more investigation on those who commit violations. As a mother of six children, an Oscar-winning actress, and a women and refugees advocate, Angelina Jolie is a superwoman.
