One of the most iconic models of all time, Cindy Crawford is a legacy. Not only is she known for her looks, but she has given a new meaning to bold beauty since the ‘90s.
Academically vigorous, Crawford was school valedictorian prior attending Northwestern university to pursue chemical engineering. Although she ended up dropping out to focus on her modelling career, she has shown the world that you can do both- challenging the stereotype of being “just a pretty face.”
In an interview, she explained how “It was the only time in my life where I felt visual discrimination. I walked into one of my chemistry classes and the professor said ‘I think you’re in the wrong class, honey.'”
Her post-modelling era led to a more business mindset, where she created a line of beauty products called Meaningful Beauty, and a new furniture line. She wrote a book about her life and career in 2015, and continues to partake in charity organisations she deeply cares about.
Due to the loss of her younger brother in her early years, Crawford is an active advocate for paediatric cancer research. She’s donated to medical research, supports the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and the paediatric oncology program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (where her bother was treated).
To many, Crawford is the definition of ageless beauty, but she defines herself as more than that. She is a role model for women and their self-confidence.
