I want to be a good leader, not a good lady leader. I don't want to be known simply as the woman who gave birth.
New Zealand
Jacinda Ardern
In the year 2017, Jacinda Ardern was titled as the youngest female leader in the world, and the youngest prime minister New Zealand had seen in 150 years.
Ardern has always been passionate about women’s rights, as she famously is known for advocating for how pregnancy and motherhood shouldn’t be a predetermine for job opportunities.
Her actions spoke louder than her words when she gave birth to a baby girl in 2018- becoming the second woman in the world to give birth while in office. She is an icon to have tackled motherhood and politics at the same time, very gracefully.
Ardern’s compassionate and decisive leadership is how New Zealand is considered one of the most successful countries to battle COVID-19 today. Her authenticity and care for her people, especially during the terrorist attack on a Christchurch mosque in 2019 in New Zealand, is why people look up to her.
Entering the world of politics at only the age of 17, Ardern has shown the world how determination, confidence, and strength can make you go places.
